Downtown Lynchburg Association Presents Free Event Series This Fall

Downtown Lynchburg Association (DLA) is presenting a series of new events free to the public this fall:

Tunes & Takeout kicks off on Tuesday, October 6 from 5pm-7pm with live music from Jason “Tater” Tomlin at the Takeout Patio at the Grove and Russ Pawlas at the Takeout Patio at the Market. A Takeout Patio is a public space where people can sit and enjoy a meal from one of the many eateries offering carryout orders. With capacity limitations still in place, placing a to-go order is a great option to continue to support local restaurants. A listing of Takeout Patio locations and full music schedule can be found at downtownlynchburg.com/tunes-takeout.

Downtown Game Night will be set up and ready for competitors each Wednesday from 4pm-6pm at Riverfront Park beginning on October 7. Attendees can choose from cornhole, giant Jenga, lawn Yahtzee, or play a round of each. Games will be sanitized between competitor groups and playing spaces will be marked on the ground to help ensure a “distance bubble.” Players should bring their smart phones as rules will provided through touchless signs and scoring apps will be encouraged. To get a refresher on how to play, visit downtownlynchburg.com/game-night.

By adding programs like music and games, DLA will create activity in public spaces that will ultimately increase foot traffic in downtown and provide visitors the opportunity to support local businesses. Although DLA hopes to get back to large events in the future, this series encourages people to interact in a safe, socially-distant manner by providing multiple dates and locations to participate.

“We know how much people miss gathering with their community. We are excited to provide these small, regular events in downtown to offer a safe way to do that while also encouraging everyone to support our local businesses. We hope that these events can be just one stop on their downtown day,” says Ashley Kershner, Downtown Lynchburg Association Executive Director.
