LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- Strong to severe thunderstorms, elevated flood risk and a low, but possible, isolated tornado risk is in the forecast for our viewing area.
This comes a day ahead of the tropical influence of Tropical Storm Isaias.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane warning from South Santee River, South Carolina, to Surf City, North Carolina, in its 5 a.m. advisory. Tropical Storm Isaias had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph (110 kph) and was expected to strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane, with winds of 74 mph (119 kph) or more.
On Tuesday, Aug. 4 rain chances to the east increase significantly as Tropical Storm Isaias will be riding along the coast.
Areas east of Lynchburg have the best chance for any heavier rain bands Tuesday morning. By 2 p.m., Isaias will push Northeast and be out of our forecast.
