VDH Update, Thursday, August 6, 2020:

The Virginia Dept. of Health now reports a running total of 95,867 confirmed cases of coronavirus/COVID-19 in the state. That's 818 new cases since the previous day. There have been 2,299 deaths in the state, up 25 deaths reported from the previous day.

The Virginia Dept. of Health is encouraging Virginians to download the COVIDWISE smartphone app to help track and prevent the spread of coronavirus/COVID-19. The app is anonymous and does not collect or store any personal information. Click here for details.

Governor Northam has created a task force of business representatives from around the state to come up with guidelines to reopen the economy, called Forward Virginia.

Virginians are urged to follow CDC recommendations to wear cloth face masks when they venture out, while also continuing to adhere to the six foot social distancing guideline.

•The state's Feeding Program is open to all Virginians in need of food assistance. Visit vafoodbanks.org for more information.

•Anyone needing social services can dial 211. The Domestic Violence Hotline continues to operate at 1-800-838-8238.

•The Virginia Employment Commission encourages all displaced workers to apply for benefits by phone or online. The one-week waiting period and active job search requirements have been waived. Apply at the VEC Website or call 1-866-832-2363.
