Two Women Killed After Hitting Tractor-Trailer on I-81 in Roanoke County

ROANOKE CO., Va. (WSET) -- Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal accident on the southbound side of Interstate 81.

Virginia State Police said a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse driven by Belina Chavez, believed to be in her 30's, was traveling at a high speed when Chavez lost control and hit a tractor-trailer from behind at around 4:31 a.m. on Sunday.

Police said Chavez and the front seat passenger, 36-year-old Melissa Ayala, were killed in the accident.

Police said that four other people were in the car at the time of the accident. Two adult women and a 14-year-old girl were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, there was also an infant in the car that was properly buckled in and was not injured in the accident.
