MLB Proposes Dropping 40 Minor League Teams Including Danville, Pulaski

Major League Baseball is proposing to drop more than 40 minor league teams, one of them being the Danville Braves.

Major League baseball has proposed reducing the number of MiLB teams from 160 to 120, which does not include the complex league teams that are entirely owned by Major League Baseball, according to the Bluefield Daily Telegraph.

A representative of the Danville Braves said the proposal also includes possible stadium upgrades and easier team travel, but it wasn't specified which teams would get these perks.

The contract between Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball expires in September 2020.

If the MLB proposal advances, the Appalachian League would cease to exist — which was created in 1911.

The teams that could face the end are the Pulaski Yankess, Danville Braves, Bluefield Blue Jays, Bristol Pirates, Burlington Royals in North Carolina, Elizabeth Twins in Tennessee, Greenville Reds in Tennessee, Johnson City Cardinals in Tennessee, Kingsport Mets in Tennessee, and Princeton Rays in West Virginia.
