BREAKING: VT defensive coordinator Bud Foster to retire after 20 years

Virginia Tech football defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Bud Foster will retire from coaching after the 2019 season, in an announcement from the team on Thursday.

Following the year, Foster will serve in a new role, reporting directly to Director of Athletics Whit Babcock, in a move similar to that of former coach Frank Beamer. The role would focus on being an ambassador for the program, in addition to other duties.

Foster currently serves as the nation's longest continuously tenured FBS assistant coach at the same school, having arrived in Blacksburg for Frank Beamer's initial season as head coach in 1987.
