Doorbell Camera Shows Moment 5-Foot Long Snake Bites Man's Face

Footage from a doorbell camera captured the horrifying moments when a 5-foot long snake attacked an unfortunate man's face when he arrived at a friend's house in Lawton, Oklahoma.

The victim, Jerel Heywood, told CNN that he planned to spend Sunday afternoon with his friends, but ended up in the hospital after a snake wrapped around a porch light attacked him.

Video showed Heywood approaching the door to Rodney Copeland's house and open the screen door. That's when the nonvenomous snake struck at him, biting at his forehead before retreating.

"When you think things arent going right... Just be thankful a snake didnt bite you in the face today," Copeland wrote on a now viral Facebook post.

Before the snake could get away, a neighbor who heard Heywood's wife screaming rushed over and used a hammer to kill the animal.

Heywood's first thought was that he had been "bit by a snake" and that he needed "to get to the hospital."

Fortunately, the snake that bit Heywood was not venomous. Doctors were able to treat the bite and place Heywood on antibiotics. No stitches were needed.

Copeland says he believes the snake took refuge up near the porch light after a series of rain storms in the area. It's the first time a snake has taken refuge in his house.

"That could've been any one of us," he added.

Copeland told CNN that says he plans to spray his yard with sulfuric acid to help keep the snakes away.

"I hear they don't like that," Copeland said.
