Heritage High Teacher, Former Coach Charged With Inappropriate Relationship

Heritage High School teacher and former coach has been charged after an allegation of an inappropriate relationship between her and a former student.

Kelly Bryant, who is currently listed in the Lynchburg City Schools directory as a teacher at Heritage, was booked into the Blue Ridge Regional Jail on February 10 and charged with taking indecent liberties with a child.

Commonwealth's Attorney Bethany Harrison said the alleged incident happened in April 2009 while Bryant was employed at Heritage High School.

Bryant was also the head volleyball coach for several years.

Lynchburg City Schools sent an alert to parents Monday at 3 p.m. telling them they became aware of Bryant's arrest and placed her on administrative leave.

Lynchburg Police began their investigation in November after the accusation came out.

They encourage anyone that may have been a victim of, or witness to, an inappropriate teacher/student relationship to report it to police or school administration.
