Virginia Tech To Receive Record-Breaking $50 Million Donation

Virginia Tech will receive its most generous donation in the schools' 146-year history.

Governor Northam and President Sands announced Thursday that The Horace G. Fralin Charitable Trust and Heywood and Cynthia Fralin is giving a $50 million donation to Virginia Tech in support of research at the newly renamed Fralin Biomedical Research Institute.

The donation will support recruiting and retaining world-leading biomedical researchers.

"This is more than a gift. You’re supporting our vision for the future of this city, this region and this university,” President Sands said.

The gift is said to be twice as large as any other single gift to Virginia Tech, making it a record.
