BREAKING: Body Found in Roanoke River, Swift Water Rescue Underway

UPDATE @ 12:44PM 

Roanoke Police responded to the area of the 800 block of Wiley Drive, SW, at about 8:30 a.m. today in reference to a body found in the Roanoke River during the clean up efforts following the flood associated with Tropical Storm Michael last week.  

Police, in cooperation with Roanoke Fire-EMS, have recovered apparent human remains from the river. 

The remains have been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for identification and determination of cause of death. 

This is an on-going investigation.


ORIGINAL STORY

Roanoke City Police are investigating after a body was found in the Roanoke River. A swift water rescue is underway.

According to authorities, the body was found near Wiley Drive and The Green Goat this morning.  It was an area that was flooded due to rain from Tropical Storm Michael last wee.

The scene remains an active investigation site. 

This is a developing story.
