Lynchburg Police: 2 men, 1 juvenile arrested for paintball violation

Lynchburg Police have arrested three individuals for paintball incidents involving six locations around the 5th Street and Park Avenue area.

Joseph Leon Farmer, 18, Lynchburg and Tatreal Devarya McDaniel, 21, of Lynchburg were both charged with 6 counts of Virginia State Code 18.2-279, Projecting a Missile at an Occupied Dwelling.

Police said one 17-year-old was also arrested in the incident. Their charges are pending.

They said between June 10 and June 15, there have been 12 police calls for service related to paintball activity in general, which is a spike.

According to police, the calls typically include property damage, vandalism, and related incident reports from citizens.

They said this activity may be connected to the recent “paintball wars” trend seen in cities around the country and on social media, which began with the “Guns Down, Paintballs Up” movement.

While the original idea was possibly well-intentioned, this activity is dangerous due to the risks associated with reckless or unlawful use of paintball guns, police said.
