March 16, 2018 - Roanoke's Festival in the Park celebrates its 50th year Memorial Day weekend in downtown with iHeartRadio Roanoke-Lynchburg as the media sponsor. The event began in 1969 and has continued annually each Memorial Day weekend since then at various venues.
Skip Brown, Executive Director of Roanoke Festival in the Park, Inc., announced this year's performers at a press conference this morning at Starr Hill Brewery and Side Stage in downtown Roanoke.
Friday, May 25- Adam Rutledge, Russel Dickerson, Drake White
Saturday, May 26 - Foghat
Sunday, May 27 - 1964 The Tribute
The family friendly event continues to grow and is expanding from Elmwood Park to include Franklin and Jefferson Streets this year. Festival isn't just about the music. This year will include a juried art show, a mountain bike show, a kid's area, and much more.
The goal of Festival is to keep it affordable while providing quality musical performances. The price of admission for the entire weekend is $10 and attendees will receive a special commemorative button. Festival buttons go on sale April 1 at the Berglund Center Box Office and they can be purchased at the gate the days of the event.
Roanoke Festival in the Park, Inc., is a non-profit 501 C-3 organization. Net proceeds from the event benefit Festival Fund Scholarship to area high school students pursuing arts in their post high school education. To date, Festival has given more more than $128,000 in scholarships.
