A Texas woman has earned a Guinness World Record for an unexpected reason—a 3.11-inch-wide tongue. Brittany Lacayo decided to apply for the title after discovering the previous record-holder, Emily Schlenker, whose tongue measured 2.89 inches wide. Lacayo's tongue is as wide as the average adult woman's tongue is long—3.11 inches.
Interestingly, her tongue is wider than it is long when measured from the epiglottis, a flap of cartilage behind the tongue. "It's neat and kind of funny," Lacayo told Guinness World Records. The male record is held by American Brian Thompson, with a tongue width of 3.49 inches.
