Gleaning For The World will be hosting two more opportunities directly help residents of Central and Eastern Texas who are attempting to pick up the pieces in the aftermath of twenty tornadoes and multiple major floods over the last three weeks.
The Houston Food Bank says that even though the flooding has subsided, there is a lot of work to be done helping residents as so many families and individuals have been left with nothing.
GFTW will be collecting supplies in front of Sam’s Club on Wards Rd. in Lynchburg for a one-day collection on Thursday, May 23 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and in front of the Walmart Neighborhood Market, located at 16807 Forest Road in Forest, on May 24 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.
Items to donate include non-perishable food items, bottled water, cleaning supplies, paper towels, baby products, pet supplies, and personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant and feminine supplies.
All donations need to be brand new, unused, and in unopened packages.
“Just a few weeks ago, twenty tornadoes attacked central and eastern Texas - and then, flood after flood affected the same area, leaving residents in despair. Our hearts go out to Texas and we have the opportunity to help provide food and supplies for those who are not able to live in their homes right now,” Gleaning’s president, Jeane Smiley-Mason said.
Financial donations can be given in person at the collection site, online at GFTW.org, or by a check mailed to GFTW, PO Box 645, Concord, VA 24538 (please indicate “tornado” on the check memo line).
Supplies and financial donations can also be dropped off at Gleaning’s Volunteer Center located at 7539 Stage Road in Concord, Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm.
