DW: Doesn't this sound like a cartoon from the 90's?
A zoo in China has sparked outrage after unveiling its new "panda dogs" attraction, which features two Chow Chow dogs that have been dyed by zookeepers to resemble panda bears. In a bid to draw in crowds, the Taizhou Zoo in Jiangsu Province revealed the exhibit last week, with the Chow Chows having their fur trimmed short before being coated in black and white dye on their face and body.
While the new residents drew a large crowd during their debut last week, the attraction was quickly condemned by locals who accused the zoo of animal cruelty. The zoo defended its decision, stating that they presented the "panda dogs" since they do not have any actual pandas for visitors to see and that the dye used is harmless.
