MAN SUFFERS FROM "DEMON FACE SYNDROME"

DW: I call this, "Walking through a crowd of my ex's!"

A man in Tennessee is facing a real-life horror movie scenario due to a rare neurological condition called prosopometamorphopsia (PMO). The nightmare began three years ago for Victor Sharrah when everyday faces morphed into demonic shapes. When his condition first started, Sharrah recalls, "I was really freaking out at that point. I was going to go have myself committed.” The condition, which affects only 75 known individuals in the world, distorts people’s faces, leaving sufferers in constant terror.

Despite his initial distress and confusion, medical investigations revealed no immediate cause, except a cyst in his brain. What’s more, Sharrah's ability to perceive faces in photos or on screens appears to be normal. Although Sharrah has adapted to this creepy reality, he hopes for a cure to spare others the trauma he has to deal with every day.
