DW: Note to self: stop praying for a free bouncy house...
An emergency slide created its own emergency when it fell from a plane into someone’s backyard near Chicago O'Hare Airport on Monday afternoon, according to police. Homeowner Patrick Devitt, says upon seeing the giant metallic blob on his property, he dragged it from the backyard to the front yard. The slide, which fell off a United 767 flight on its way to O’Hare from Switzerland, hit the house, causing damage to the roof shingles, downspout, and a kitchen window screen. The FAA reportedly arrived within 30 minutes of Devitt calling 911.
Though no one was injured, DePaul University Professor Joe Schwieterman says, "This is really going to trigger some pretty major investigations. This was not a bird strike or something that's routine. It's a rare instance that could have caused fatalities on the ground or even affected the stability of that airplane when it was landing.”
