Babies kick while they’re in their mother’s womb, and not a team of scientists say they’ve figured out why. The team from the University of Tokyo says they’ve discovered that kicking and moving in the womb helps with early child development, including hand-eye coordination.
The team used a computer model to analyze the communication between muscles in newborn babies and says the seemingly random movements of babies help them learn to perform sequential movements. The peer-reviewed study was published in the journal “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.”
