Both Pilots On Ethiopian Airlines Flight Fall Asleep And Miss Landing

Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET343 was supposed to touch down in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at 6:20 a.m. after a two-hour flight, but air traffic control noticed that the plane remained at 37k feet instead of descending for a landing. They tried to contact the pilots multiple times but got no response; that’s because both pilots were fast asleep.

The pilots might still be sleeping, but the autopilot disconnected when they missed their landing and set off an alarm that woke the pilots up. They’ve both reportedly been suspended, with the airline blaming “pilot fatigue” for the mistake.
