Researchers at the University of California San Diego say they’ve developed a smartphone app that records closeups of a person’s eye that can show signs of Alzheimer’s or ADHD. The app takes pictures of your pupil using your phone’s infrared camera and measures its size.
The team says that pupil size can give information about a person’s neurological functions, and a similar test has been available in clinical settings for a while, and they say the measurements from the phone app were ‘comparable’ to those taken by a pupillometer, the gold standard for measuring pupil size.
