They Just Held Cockroach Races In Maine

DW: (insert me squealing like a little girl and running away!)

Over 40 entomologists gathered in Augusta, Maine over the weekend for a winter workshop…and to race cockroaches. It was the first time the Maine Entomological Society had been able to gather in person since before the pandemic, and the cockroach races kicked off the festivities.

Zoology student Samual Jupin matched people with roaches, and said they’re “often overlooked and stigmatized insects,” before adding that there’s “a lot of good they do.” Retired state entomologist Kathy Murray says her roach was “a clear winner.”
